What is Eye Movement Desensitizing Reprocessing (EMDR) Therapy?
EMDR is a form of therapy used to process trauma, distressing experiences, unhelpful patterns of thinking, and other thoughts or memories that cause discomfort. This approach uses bilateral stimulation—such as the back-and-forth movement of the eyes, hands, or legs—to help the brain become “unstuck” and effectively process memories.
EMDR has been shown to decrease stress symptoms by 60-90% for those who complete treatment, allowing for overall improved quality of life. Through this process, individuals can develop more adaptive and functional ways of experiencing their thoughts, feelings, and memories.
